Nadar K.P. and Smt. A. Kunjulekshmy; born at Kazhivoor in Neyyattinkara Taluk on 28, August, 1947; B.Sc, B.Ed., M.A., LL.B., Ph.D.; Social and Political Worker.
Interested in Political affairs in childhood; was inclined toward the 'Left' during early student days; started active politics by joining Indian National Congress in 1964; Was KSU District Committee Member (1966); became KSU District Secretary in 1967-68 and later its President (1968-69), Was Member, State Youth Congress Committee in 1968 and its President in 1969; University Union Councillor, Law College Thiruvananthapuram and Chairman, Kerala University Union (1972); Member, K.P.C.C. in 1969 and A.I.C.C. in 1972; Member INTUC State Working Committee till 1977.
Left Indian National Congress along with Babu Jagjivan Ram and H.N. Bahuguna during the Emergency period and associated in the formation of the Congress for Democracy (CFD) and became its State President; Joined Janatha Party when CFD merged in the Janatha Party, Became State President of Congress for Democracy when it was revived after the split in the Janatha Party; Rejoined the Indian National Congress along with Shri. Bahuguna; Left INC when Bahuguna formed Democratic Socialist party, Became Parliamentary Party Leader in Lok Sabha and State Chairman of Democratic Socialist Party; Was Member National Standing Committee and State President of Lok Dal (Changed name of D.S.P.).
Was State Secretary General of Janatha Dal till 1999; was Member of State Library Council; Founded "Kamaraj Foundation of India" in 1976 and is working as its Chairman; Working as the Manager, Printer and Publisher of the Monthly "Yugadeepam", started "Gandhian Balakendras" on 1987 and working as its Chief Patron.
Was Minister for Law, Electricity, Irrigation, Labour and Housing (1977-79); Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs (1987-91) and Minister for Forest and Transport (1999-2000).
Now, Janatha Dal Legislature Party Leader and Member Janatha Dal National Executive
Committee.
Elected to K.L.A. in 1977 and 1987 and 1996. (Elected in 1991 but declared void by the Hon'ble High Court). |
