Son of Shri Keezhoottu Raman Pillai and Smt. Karthiayani Amma; 25-8-1109 M.E.; B.A.; Agriculturist; Political and Trade Union Worker.

Entered politics while a student; was an active worker of the Student's Federation; was President, Edamulackal Panchayat (1964-1987); was President, Kottarakkara Panchayat (1987 - 1995); was Member, K.P.C.C. Executive and A.I.C.C. (1958-1965); served as Chairman, House Committee, Kerala Legislative Assembly (1963-1964); formed Kerala Congress as Founder General Secretary in 1964; elected to Lok Sabha in 1971; was Leader, Kerala Congress Party in Parliament; while serving as an M.P. became Minister for Transport, Excise and Jail in 1975, in the Ministry headed by C. Achutha Menon; was Minister for Electricity during 1980-82, 1982-85 and 1986-87; was Minister for Transport in the Ministry headed by Shri. K. Karunakaran and Shri. A.K. Antony during 1991-1995; now the Chairman of the Kerala Congress (B) Party.

Completed 42 years of service in the Field of Politics as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and as a Member of Parliament.

Elected to K.L.A. in 1960, 1965, 1977, 1980 (with the highest margin of 36,711 votes), 1982, 1987, 1991 and 1996.
