Entered politics during student days influenced by the J.P. Movement and protesting against the imposition of Emergency; Enrolled as a Member of Kerala Vidhyarthi Janata (KVJ) in 1977; Served as Unit Secretary, Marthoma College, Thiruvalla; Taluk Secretary, Thiruvalla, District President, Alappuzha, State Secretary and State President (1985-88) of KVJ; State president, Yuva Janatha; Participated in many students agitations and got arrested several times; Volunteer Secretary, NSS College Unit; Secretary as well as Speaker , BRAINS TRUST, Marthoma College, Thiruvalla; University Union councillor, Kerala University and Gandhiji University; Secretary,  Janatha Head Load Workers Union, Thiruvalla, Quarry Workers Union, Thiruvalla;  President and Secretary of Y.M.C.A, Thiruvalla;  Served as Minister for Transport, Printing and Stationery for three years  in the LDF Ministry led by Shri. V.S. Achuthanandan in 2006. Senior Vice President, Janata Dal (S) State Committee; Member, National Executive Committee.
