Entered politics while a student; participated in students agitation and imprisoned Became CPI(M) Member in 1980; In DYFI served as Unit Secretary, Village Committee Secretary and Taluk Committee Secretary, served as Vice-President and later President of DYFI Alappuzha District Committee; was, Member, CPI(M) Local Committee (1982-88); Member, CPI (M) Ambalapuzha Area Committee (1986-1993); suspended from CPI (M) in 1993; Joined JSS and became its Youth Wing (J.Y.S) State Secretary (1993-98); Was J.S.S. Alappuzha District President (2000).
